Patrick Mohr’s creations are excentric, somewhat provocative, outspoken, and very straightforward. His fashion ranges between avantgardist and streetwear, being far from a glamorous appearance.
Graduating in 2007 from ESMOD fashion school in Munich, Patrick Mohr is awarded the PRIX CREATEUR for the best collection. He then works for Henrik Vibskov in Copenhagen, Denmark, where he finds inspirations for his own unique style. In 2008, Patrick Mohr founds his own fashion label.
The designer transcends the line between wearable fashion and arts, aiming to expose the needs of an individual through its outer jacketing - regardless of norms and mores. Patrick Mohr’s creations are based on the gender mainstreaming strategy as a future utopia of a modern, emancipated society. Hence all creations are exclusively unisex.
Every piece of Patrick Mohr’s clothing is symmetrically tailored, drawing upon a vocabulary of geometric shapes. Equilateral triangles, squares, and parallelograms are not only composing the logo but are likewise the carriers of meaning of the creative concept. It is based on a modular assembly system whose simpleness and logic are the groundwork of the young designer’s blueprints. The geometric shapes find use in the two-dimensionality of the style, whereas the piece of clothing is plastically designed in an almost architectural or sculptural manner.
The shapes correspond at large to the complete human need for dressing oneself. Every piece of clothing is assigend symbolically to one of the three geometrical shapes. The triangle covers for overgarments and light fabrics, such as t-shirts and jersey. The square stands for undergarments, especially jeans. Jackets and coats are covered by the parallelogram.
For his first show, called „Is the rhomboid ragpicker homeless?“, presenting his spring / summer 2010 collection at Berlin Fashion Week in July 2009, Patrick Mohr casts homeless people. All outfits, presented by the homeless as well as by the conventional models, construe the destiny of the individual wearer.
Nature is one of Patrick Mohr’s biggest sources of inspiration, finding its appropriation in the shape of materials such as wood or jute. His ideal of natural beauty are the cool landscapes of Canada and Scandinavia. In this context, natural abrasion and the perishability of materials are particularly an aesthetic means for Patrick Mohr.
Suzy Menkes speaks of a raw energy that prevails on the catwalk. Floating fabrics that hang down in shreds, and threads that suggest the dissolution of seams are formal and contentual characteristics of the designer’s look. This so called „homeless chic“ then develops into a new fashion trend.
Cooperations with other artists and labels add to Patrick Mohr’s design and products in various artistic ways.
For his second show in Berlin in January 2010, DJ Hell provides the designer with a special DJ set. In a most recent collaboration with the basketball brand K1X, Patrick Mohr creates an avantgardistic sneaker version, commercially available exclusively in the summer of 2010.
